Schools in New Delhi are closed, and people with asthma need oxygen tanks. The level of PM2.5 pollutants have reached 999, more than 16 times more that the limit of 60. People are advised to stay at home, and countless fires are being put out by bulldozers . Coal-fired power station will stop working for 3 days, to help reduce the smog. The air quality is the worst it has been in 17 years. The air pollution in China is level 298, while New Delhi reaches level 500. That's about 200 more than China. According to the Washington Post, Pollution has become a matter of life or death in India. Pollution related deaths in South Asia were above 0.5-0.6 million annually in 2014-15. The smog in New Delhi is so bad that it was blamed for a 70 car pile-up. Many people first shrugged it off as fog, but now the govt. has taken action. People say that the air is so dirty you can smell and taste it. It's gotten so bad that shopkeepers are selling smoke masks to people.
